Sbarro at the Mall

So, I had another fun filled weekend of shopping, homework and pizza eating. The bad news? I was Christmas shopping in a crowd of people right in the middle of Christmas shopping season!! The good news? I had a wonderful slice of Sbarro’s pizza!!

After two hours of walking, rushing and yelling around the mall for my mother who likes to wonder off without saying a word, I decided to help myself to a specialty stuffed pizza. It was spinach and broccoli, and I can honestly say that I have never had a spinach and broccoli pizza…I was a bit excited.

The pizza was made with delicious goodness. There were two crisp crusts that were overstuffed with spinach, broccoli, ricotta, mozzarella, and Romano cheese. By the way, cheese is my second favorite food to eat! YUM! Although I hate the atmosphere of the mall, I certainly enjoyed this stuffed delight.

My sister was a bit more daring than I was. She had the Hawaiian pizza. This aloha pizza features sweet pineapple, sliced ham and melted mozzarella on top of their amazing seasoned tomato sauce. I will admit, the thought of pineapple on my pizza sounds weird! But, I feel you should try it before you dog it…or whatever that saying is, ha-ha!

So, the next time you head to your local Sbarro near you, try their Hawaiian pizza or their spinach and broccoli stuffed pizza. They are guaranteed a good bite.

Cafe Roma Pizzeria

In between Hooters and the AMC movie theater in downtown Phoenix at the AZ Center on 3rd street and Van Buren, is a place called Cafe Roma Pizzeria. I’ve been going to this pizzeria for the past year and I must say, it is delicious.

They have a variety of different pizzas from the tomato basil to the salad pizza and of course, their classic peperoni pizza. I was able to chat with the owner, Angela Knezevic about how she got started owning her own pizzeria.

“Actually, a friend talked me into it. I never had experience but they had the experience and I had the money…I’ve been running this place for the past year, but this pizza shop has been around for eight years.”

There are several pizza shops out there in the world, so it is hard to find out which one is the best, sometimes it just depends on who they are made. Knezevic says that her pizzeria is not a conveyor belt type of place. “The pizza is baked on stone. We have amazing cooks and great employees that make the dough from scratch and cut fresh toppings. There is nothing easy about what we do.” says Knezevic

According to Knezevic, Cafe Roma is busiest during the week between 12:30-1:30. She says that because the pizza shop is located in the middle of corporate business and most of those people will grab lunch at Cafe Roma.

If you are wondering what the most popular pizza is at Cafe Roma is, Knezevic says it’s their salad pizza. “It’s basically a salad on top of a pizza. There is not marinara sauce and it is filled with spinach, green peppers, olives, mushroom, onions and feta cheese.” says Knezevic.

Knezevic also said that she is looking for part time employees that does a little bit of everything in the pizza shop. “All the employees know how to cook and use the register.” says Knezevic.

This pizzeria is good and has great flavors in the pizza. If you are every in the downtown Phoenix area and you are craving tasty pizza, I suggest you stop at Cafe Roma.

Streets of Old Pork

There are several things that need to take place in order to enjoy your meal. Number 1: The food must be good (Well duh…that is the most obvious) Number 2: The waiter/waitress must be efficient and have the food out to you in a decent amount of time (You don’t wanna starve do you?). Number 3: You must be surrounded by people you enjoy hanging out with (That way you can have fun table conversation). And the last would be having the waiter/waitress offer dessert (I love something sweet after a meal). So none of that happened (with the exception of  number 3) when I went to Streets of New York in Glendale this past Sunday.

The afternoon started out great. I just finished shopping at one of my favorite boutiques (Francesca…it’s the best!) with my mom and my sister when we all started to get hungry. My sister suggested Streets of New York because it was in the same area where we were shopping. You know me, I never turn down a pizza place and with a name like Streets of New York, I was looking forward to a authentic New York style pie. We walked in with eyes as big as our stomachs. I was already deciding that I wanted an original and classic slice of cheese pizza. YUM!
Our waitress started out as prefect. She got us our drinks right away and gave us some bread bites with marinara sauce to munch on while we wait for our food. My mom already was planning on leaving a great tip for her. Soon the bread bites were gone and our hunger grew on and on (HA! I can rhyme).  Ten minutes turned into 20 and 20 turned into 30. My mom was starting to get angry and I wasn’t far behind her. If it weren’t for the Cardinals game playing, I think I would have gone crazy. Rule Number 2 already broken!

We finally get our food and the pizza, well… it sucked! It was lame and tasted like something I heated up in my microwave. I was extremely disappointed with my cheese pizza. I started thinking that maybe I should have gotten a different type of pizza. Then I tasted my sister’s pepperoni and realized that their pizza just isn’t good. Rule Number 1, broken.

We get through our meals and the waitress just walks by and places the check on the edge of our table. I looked through the dessert menu on the table and noticed that they didn’t have anything interesting to eat. I was already in a crap mood due to the long wait of my meal and the lack of good taste in my meal. My stomach started to hurt because I think I waited too long to eat…it was enough for us to pay real quick and get the heck out!

Overall, I leave the decision up to all you pizza lovers out there if you wanna dine at Streets of New York. I probably will cross them off my list of pizza parlors BUT I will say, that they did have some pretty tasty wings…but that can be for a different blog.

Must be 21 or older to eat.

You might like wine or beer with your pizza, but have you ever had wine or beer on your pizza? Salvatore’s Pizza in Boston has a new pizza that is just for adults only called the Virnola Cherry.

This pizza features fresh mozzarella, gorgonzola, prosciutto, orange blossom honey, and the main event: Bing cherries marinated in raspberry vodka.

According to the Boston Herald, the alcoholic pizza started when corporate chef Victor Paone and vice president of operations Peter Ackerman began to experiment with some of the ingredients…and thus the Virnola Cherry was born.

This pizza is becoming so popular, that the pizza parlor has plans on releasing two more versions of this booze-soaked pie! According to, the next two pizzas to come out are The Drunken Pig, with Kahlua-marinated braised pork and The Calabria Peach, with rum-infused fresh peaches.

CNN posted a video about the boozed pizza and shows that the alcohol does not bake off in the oven. Once the chefs figured that out, they ran with the idea of an alcoholic pizza.

PMS: Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Sausage

My Motivation for this blog came to me in a dream that I had recently. I was stuck on a deserted island, somewhere tropical and beautiful. I have a gorgeous male by my side and he ask me, “What would you like to eat, my love?” Although I am stunned that a Bradley Cooper look-alike is looking into my eyes and uses the phrase ‘my love’ in a sentence, my answer is so simple; PIZZA!
Pizza has always been that one type of food that just works for almost every situation: Parties, dinners, first dates, an all carb girls night in, second dates, after a hangover and of course while drinking a beer. The best thing about Pizza is that it isn’t boring. There are so many different ways to approach a slice of pizza. You can have white sauce, red sauce, you can add fruit, different meats, and if you don’t like meat, have a cheese pizza…The list is endless.
Not only are there different kinds of pizza out there in this great world, but there are different ways to bake a pie: Pizza rolls, pizza bread, mini pizza, calzone, stuffed pizza, dessert pizza, Mexican pizza…you name it!
Whether you are making your own pizza, going to a restaurant, or ordering in, most men and women will enjoy PMS: Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Sausage. I have to say, PMS pizza is a classic, wonderful choice to make when in the pizza eating mood. The best and most easiest place to get a good PMS pie is at Pizza Hut. Not only do they have great freshly baked bread underneath all the amazing toppings, but you can eat it in the comfort of your own living room in front of a nice big TV while you’re watching Dirty Dancing (Sorry, I’m a Patrick Swayze fan too). Or for the guys out there; a football game.
Let’s change gears! Let’s say you aren’t at home and you are out with friends, family, or on an awesome first date. Grimaldi’s Pizzeria is awesome. If you are looking for thin crust, no grease and a burst of authentic flavors, then Grimaldi’s is your place. The setting inside gives you a classy yet daring taste of New York. If you don’t feel like tasting the New York style, head over to Old Chicago! If you are looking for some seriously good pizza with over 100 beers to drink, then ease on down the road to Old Chicago. Their motto is Eat. Drink. Be Yourself. Their big portions and laid back setting will have you seriously enjoying the time you have there.

I could probably eat pizza every day for the rest of my life, but for sake of my body expanding and needing a healthy variety in my life, I don’t. Everyone needs cheat days and when I am taking a break from fruits, veggies, and other high in fiber items, I enjoy a nice slice of pizza.
